The check-in service requires an internet connection (cellular data or Wifi) in order to start, stop, or extend a check-in session timer. You'll be unable to start a check-in session if you are completely without coverage.
Once a check-in session is started, our server has record of this. That means that if you lose cellular coverage during the session and the timer expires, your missed check-in alert will still go out to your emergency contacts. The state if your phone coverage at the moment the timer expires does not affect the alert.
- This is especially helpful when you are heading into dead zones where you expect to briefly lose coverage (for example, a parking garage, a basement or a crawl space).
